• Tawhid - oneness of god
• Sunni Muslims believe that Abu Bakr ( Muhammed's closest friend)was the rightful successor of Muhammed
• Abu Bakr and the three that came after him are called the rightly guided caliphs
• Sunni Muslims believe that Muhammed did not assign a leader after his death
• Sunni Muslims do not believe Ali was divinely chosen
• Shia believe that Muhammeds successor should be from his family
• Shia believe that Ali was the first imam, or spiritual leader
• six articles of faith for sunni islam: tawhid, angels, prophets, holy books, day of judgement and aftelife (akhirah), and al-qadr
• 5 roots of usul ad din -

  1. Tawhid - the belief that God is one, almighty and unique.
  2. Divine justice (Adalat) - God will judge everyone on the Day of Judgement.
  3. The prophets (nubuwwah) - who should be respected, especially Muhammad.
  4. Authority of the imams (imamate) - these twelve imams were chosen by God to lead Islam after Muhammad.
  5. Day of Resurrection (Al-Ma’ad) - Muslims will be resurrected and judged by God.
• shia muslims believe that an imam is not someone that leads prayers but is someone chosen by God
• Shia believe imams have to be from Muhammed's bloodline
• Sunni believe the successor should be someone that embodies islam
• Sunni believe that successors chosen by leading muslims are called caliphs
• Sunnis believe there were four rightly guided caliphs
• All Muslims believe in Tawhid, resurrection and , prophethood
• Sunnis believe that God already knows our fate and Shia believe they have more freedom to choose their fate and actions

• Munkar and Nakir - Questioning in the grave
• Ridwan- gatekeeper of heaven
• Maalik - gatekeeper of hell
• " no vision can take him but he can take all vision"
• The most excellent names belong to God, use those to call on him
• God does not wrong people at all
• angels " Glorify him tirelessly day and night"
• Angels are made from light
• Angels are sinless and have no free will
• Angels are immortal
• " Each person has angels before him and behind him watching over him by gods command"
