  1. Set up the apparatus with the spring suspended from the clamp stand and the meter ruler positioned beside it.
  2. Record the initial length of the spring without any masses attached.
  3. Add mass to the spring and record the new length.
  4. Calculate the extension by subtracting the original length from the new length
  5. Repeat experiment with different masses
