  • Aim: begins with 'to' followed by a verb, present tense
  • Hypothesis: An educated guess about what will happen, 'if' and 'then' structure, present tense, includes IV and DV
  • DV: variable that can be measured, depends on the IV
  • IV: variable that you can change in the experiment, is the cause of the DV
  • CV: kept the same throughout the experiment, must include at least 2
  • Material list: must be in dot points, quantity mentioned
  • Method: must be numbered, past tense, begins with 'the' followed by noun and then verb
  • Results: cannot be drawn by hand, table format
  • Graph: pick graph based on experiment, labelled, titles, IV and DV included
  • Discussion: explain results, compare to other experiments, limitations, future research
  • Conclusion: summarise findings, state if hypothesis was accepted or rejected
  • Conclusion: summarise findings, state hypothesis, discuss implications
  • hazard list: a list of hazards that may be present in an experiment, dot points, errors as well, explain these in the method and how they were managed
  • when putting a caption always mention the connection between the iv and dv, don't make it too long, usually can be the same as the title of the graph
  • iv goes on the x axis
  • dv goes on the y axis
  • equal intervals on both axis
  • for hypothesis, sentence starter: 'it is hypothesized that...' and 'if...then'
  • make sure to be exact when mentioning quantitites
  • caption should be under the graph
  • results table also needs a caption

  • when iv and dv are both numbers, use a line graph
  • when either iv or dv is not a number then use bar graph
