Self-concept is made up of a combination of self-image and self-esteem
Self-image is how an individual sees themselves and how they think they are seen by others
Self-esteem is how an individual feels about themselves
Self-concept provides us with a sense of identity
Positive self-concept includes positive self-image, being content with how they look and their abilities, getting positive feedback from friends and family, comparing positively with peers, having high self-esteem, being willing to try new things, coping well under pressure, and feeling confident
Negative self-concept includes negative self-image, feeling unhappy with how they look and their intelligence, getting negative feedback from friends and family, comparing negatively with peers and media images, having low self-esteem, feeling worthless, being reluctant to try new things, and struggling in new or challenging circumstances
Self-concept develops early in life but is constantly being evaluated and readjusted as we journey through our lives
