exersise

Cards (7)

  • what happens during exercise?
mucles contract more needing more energy, so there is more cellular respiration so more oxygen is needed, and the volume and depth of a breath increases, it also means more oxygen is pumped around the body (so a higher heart rate needing more energy)
  • what happens if there isnt enough oxygen during excerise?
Anaerobic respiration takes place, producing lactic acid which builds up in tissues and creates an oxygen dept
  • what is a oxygen dept?
the amount of oxygen needed to get rid of lactic acid after excersise (more lactic acid means more oxygen)
  • how does the body get rid of lactic acid?
blood carries lactic acid to the liver, where it reacts with oxygen and is converted to glucose
  • how would you investigate the effect of exercise?
measure the heart/breathing rate before and after exercise.
  • how would you measure breathing rate?
count how many time the chest rises and falls over a set time period (1 min)
  • how would you measure heart rate?
measure the pulse by touching an artery in the wrist for a set time period (1 min)
