    • Narratives like Cain and Abel, The Great Flood, and The Tower of Babel show the consequences of sin and God's mercy
  • Lesson 2: Call of the Patriarchs and Moses
  • Abraham:
    • God tested Abraham to see how he would deal with it
    • Abraham responded with faith and obedience
    • God blessed Abraham abundantly for his obedience
    • Abraham's name was changed to signify a change in destiny and vocation
  • Isaac:
    • Isaac was the promised son to Abraham and Sarah in their old age
    • Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac as commanded by God, showing his obedience and faith
  • Isaac and Abraham's conversation on the mountain:
    • Isaac asked about the sheep for the burnt offering
    • Abraham replied that God will provide the sheep
    • They walked on together
  • Isaac was a responsible son who learned to lead the family and manage its business
  • Isaac designated his successor by passing on the family blessing when he was a hundred years old
  • Isaac nearly failed in passing on the blessing due to not recognizing God's revelation that Jacob should receive it instead of Esau

    • Book of Judges ends with a horrible rape leading to civil war where the whole tribe of Benjamin is slaughtered except for six hundred men
  • Monarchy Period:
    • Israelites want their own king, God reluctantly answers
    • Samuel anoints Saul as the first king of Israel
    • Saul faces many problems and is eventually killed in battle
    • David follows Saul as the second king, unites all tribes into one kingdom
    • Solomon builds a temple at Jerusalem after David's death
    • David and Solomon guilty of sins in building their empire
    • Kingdom splits into Israel (northern) and Judah (southern)
  • Wisdom Books:
    • Collection of proverbs, moral lessons, riddles, warnings, meditations, and philosophical inquiry
    • Includes hymns and love poetry in Psalms and Song of Songs
    • Wisdom comes from God's revelation and human experience
    • Books like Proverbs and Sirach contain ageless advice and common sense
  • Prophets:
    • Prophets were messengers of salvation calling people to return to the one true God
    • Major Prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel
    • Minor Prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi
    • Prophets warned and guided God's people throughout history
  • Leadership Qualities of Israelite Judges:
    • Joshua, Deborah, Gideon, Samson
    • Each had specific leadership qualities in guiding the Israelites
  • Significance of Judges in God's Plan:
    • Period of judges shows the cycle of sin, punishment, repentance, and deliverance
    • Demonstrates the importance of staying faithful to God's covenant
    • Reflects on how the cycle of sin and repentance affects individual lives
  • Upholding Social Justice:
    • Prophets uphold social justice
    • Identify unfair treatment in Philippine society and ways to promote justice for different sectors
