ECG ST Segment

Cards (2)

  • Is there any elevation or depression of the ST-Segment:
    • ST elevation is usually caused by complete occlusion of a vessel, which has caused cardiac necrosis, which is a rise in troponin, resulting in myocardial infarction
    • ST depression is a partial occlusion of a vessel, causing cardiac necrosis (rise in troponin), but if there is no necrosis, the ECG would show angina
  • ST segment:
    • ST Segment depression – think either ischaemia (angina) or Non-ST elevated myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) - is angina if there is no necrosis/no rise in troponin
    • ST Segment elevationST elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI)
