• • FDR + churchill met in Casablanca + decided to invade Italy. it began in Sicily (small island) then the allies marched for Rome
• 40 miles from Rome was the city Anzio, where a major battle took place (one of ww2 bloodiest). it lasted 4 months. 25K allied soldiers were killed. The allies won + took over Italy
• AA had their first combat in Italy
• 442nd Regimental Combat Team: Japanese americans who became the most decorated unit in US history
• Tehran Conference: a meeting between the big three (FDR. Churchill, Stalin). met to discuss the specifies of a Germany invasion. Soviets would invade from the east. allies would attack from the west.
• in order for allies to get into Germany, they would have to go through France
• Germany began to fortify France‘s coast. The invasion took place around the Normandy coastline. The most intense battle was at Omaha Beach. The invasion took many lives, and the first ones off the ships died heavily.
