  • What is the Bible?
    The revealed word of God. The word 'bible' comes from the Greek word 'biblia' meaning books and refers to the Christian holy book.
  • What is the Revelation?
    The belief that God's revealed truths are His word. The word of God is the revelation of God to his people - God continuing to speak to the world. (God reveals himself through the Bible.)
  • What is Advent?
    The word Advent means 'coming'. Four week preparation leading up to the celebration of Christmas and the Incarnation. Start of the Church's liturgical year.
  • What is the Liturgical Year?
    The liturgical year is the church's year, divided into special seasons to help people to celebrate in worship the events of the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • What is the Epiphany?
    A Christian festival on the 6th of January which celebrates the arrival of the wise men who came to see Jesus Christ soon after he was born, Jesus's true identity as the Son of God was revealed to the Gentiles (Magi)

    The voice of God speaking in our hearts helping us to decide the difference between right and wrong
  • What is Lent?
    Six week period of preparation for Easter, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday. Catholics are reminded to turn away from sin and remain faithful to the Gospel through fasting, prayer and almsgiving
  • What is meant by judgement?
    The belief that each individual will be held to account by God for the things they do during their lives. As seen in the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats
  • What are the Stations of the Cross?
    Numbered steps in the events of the Passion, from the condemnation of Jesus to the placing of His body in the tomb.
  • What is meant by Pilgrimage?
    A journey made to a religiously significant place with a spiritual purpose
  • What is Purgatory?
    A place or state of purposeful suffering where the souls of sinners are purified before going to Heaven
  • What are confessionals?
    A small room dedicated for private conversation during the sacrament of reconciliation.
