    a place where 2 or more bones meet and allows movement and rotation to occur

  • Tendons connect muscle to bone
  • Cartilage is a tissue with covers and cushions the bone

  • Hinge joint
    • Only moves in two directions: flexion and extension
    • e.g. knee, elbow, ankle
  • Ball and socket joint
    • Allows all movement types
    • e.g. hip and shoulder
  • Pivot joint
    • rotates like a wheel around an axis
    • e.g. neck
  • Condyloid joint
    • allows flexion, extension, abduction and adduction which combines to create circumduction
    • e.g. wrist
