    • Strength:
      P - it takes in to the account the experiences of the patient
      E - it considers the thoughts and feelings of the person and how it is affecting their life
      E - it does not simply make a judgment on a pre-defined list of symptoms
      C - more sensitive tool for assessing abnormality than statistical infrequency which just focuses on what is numerically rare
    • Limitation:
      P - the presence of an abnormality doesn’t always result in a failure to function
      E - an individual with depression may still be able to carry out everyday tasks like going to work
      E - a person with psychopathy lacks moral standards of behaviour but this does not cause distress or failure to cope
      C - not always accurate in defining abnormality so should not be sole definition
