    • OCD is characterized by recurrent, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that cause distress or anxiety
    • Compulsion - repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to reduce the anxiety caused by obsessive thoughts
    • Obsession - an unwanted thought, image, urge, worry, or doubt that repeatedly enters one's mind

    • behavioral aspects of ocd include compulsions (repeated behaviour to reduce anxiety), Avoidance (avoiding presence of objects that trigger obsessions ), Social impairment (difficult to leave the house without trigger)
    • Emotional aspects include anxiety and depression
    • cognitive aspects include obsessions ( irrational recurrent thoughts), hypervigilance (state of alertness looking for source of obsession, and selective attention (so focused on one thing, cant focus on others)
