  • In India elections are held every five years for the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha (parliament).
  • A country is divided into different areas for the purpose of elections. These elections are called electoral constituencies.
  • Voters List- list of those who are eligible to vote. Officially called the Electoral Roll.
  • Election Commission - an independent body that conducts all national, state and local elections. It ensures free and fair elections by making sure everyone has equal access to information about candidates and their policies. They also ensure that no one can influence voters or interfere with the election process.
  • Universal Adult Franchise- all citizens aged 18 years and above can vote in the elections.
  • Model Code of Conduct- No party or candidate can:
    Use any place of worship for election propaganda.
    Use govt vehicles, aircrafts, officials, etc.
