  • Ecology is the study of ecosystems
  • The biome is an area where similar communities are found due to climate or geography
  • An ecosystem is all organisms that live together with their physical surroundings.
  • Symbiosis is the term used for interactions in which two organisms live together in a close relationship that is beneficial to at least one of them.
  • There are three types of symbiotic interactions; mutualism, commensalism, parasitsm
  • Mutualism is when both species benefit from the interaction
  • Parasitism is when one species benefits while the other suffers
  • Commensalism is when only one species benefits from the interaction
  • Allelopathy
    • Where the plant releases signals that influence other plants around it they can cut off water flow to leaves and cause the plant to become bitter and unpleasant. This happens when there is a danger that comes to them.
  • Predation is where an animal kills another animal for food
  • Competition occurs between individuals or populations of different species competing for limited resources such as food, space, light, nutrients etc.
