NSTEMI

• NSTEMI pt1:

  • NSTEMI involves partial or transient occlusion of a coronary artery, leading to a smaller area of myocardial ischemia
  • While there is still necrosis to the heart muscle and an increase in cardiac biomarkers (troponin), the myocardial injury is generally less extensive than in STEMI
• NSTEMI pt2:

  • ECG changes in NSTEMI are typically non-specific or may show ST segment depression or T wave inversion, indicating less severe ischemia
  • Treatment focuses on antiplatelet therapy, a percutaneous coronary intervention, coronary artery bypass graft surgery and addressing the underlying cause of the atheroma
