  • What does the orbitofrontal cortex do?
It converts sensory information into thoughts and actions. In OCD patients, this shows higher activity.
  • What does the thalamus do?
It functions for safety behaviours such as cleaning and checking (also overreactive in OCD patients).
  • What are cases of OCD, such as hoarding, linked to?
Some cases of OCD (hoarding) are linked to impaired decision making. This is linked to the abnormal functioning of the frontal lobe (responsible for logical thinking and decision making).
  • What is the parahippocampal gyrus associated with?
The parahippocampal gyrus is associated with processing unpleasant emotions and functions abnormally in OCD patients.
