Baddeley added the episodic buffer in 2000, as he realised the model needed a more general store, it accounts for things that use both visual and acoustic information. The episodic buffer is an extra storage system but with a limited capacity of 4 chunks, as the central executive has no storage capacity. It integrates information from all other areas.
