Types of pain

• Nociceptive pain:

  • Pain that arises due to the activation of tissue nociceptors secondary to noxious or threatening stimuli
• Neuropathic pain:

  • Pain that arises due to abnormal neural function secondary to injury or disease
• Nociplastic pain:

  • Pain that persists despite a clear nociceptive driver in the tissues or specific neural injury
