  • Adverbs are a broad collection of words that modify verbs and describe how, where, or when an action took place
  • An adverb is formed by adding -ly to an adjective
  • For adjectives ending in -y, replace the y with i and add -ly
  • For adjectives ending in -able, -ible, or -le, replace the -e with -y
  • Comparative and superlative adverbs are formed by using more for the comparative and most for the superlative
  • Adverbs of Manner tell us the manner or way in which something happens and mainly modify verbs
  • Adverbs of Place tell us the place where something happens and mainly modify verbs
  • Adverbs of Time tell us something about the time that something happens and can answer the question "when?" or "how often?"
  • Adverbs of Degree tell us the degree or extent to which something happens and can modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs
  • Adverbs of Reason are used to tell the reason behind the happening of a particular occurrence
  • Adverbs of Affirmation or Negation declare that something is true or make a negative statement
  • Not all words ending in -ly are adverbs
