  • The Treaty of Versailles was signed on the 28th June 1919 by Britain, Germany, USA & France, marking the end of World War I
  • Terms imposed on Germany:
    • Army limited to 100,000 soldiers
    • Had to take full responsibility for the war (Article 231)
    • Lost 13% of its territory, including Alsace-Lorraine and The Saar given to France, and land in eastern Germany given to Poland
    • Lost 10% of its population
    • Had to pay £6.6 billion in reparations
    • Rhineland was demilitarised (no army)
    • Could only have 6 battleships
    • No air force
    • Could not make a union with Austria
