  • Critique Paper
    is a genre of academic writing.
     briefly and critically summarizes and evaluates a work or concept.

  • CRITICIZE – to judge or to evaluate someone or something

  • CRITICAL APPROACHES
       sometimes called “lenses”, are the different perspectives we can consider in analyzing or interpreting a text.
  • FORMALIST CRITICISM
       This approach regards literature as “a unique form of human knowledge that needs to be examined on its own terms.”
  • HISTORICAL  CRITICISM
       This approach “seeks to understand a literary work by investigating the social, cultural, and intellectual context that produced it.
  • READER-RESPONSE CRITICISM
       This approach takes as a fundamental tenet that “literature” exists not as an artifact upon a printed page but as a transaction between the physical text and the mind of a reader.
  • MEDIA CRITICISM
       Media criticism is the act of closely examining and judging the media.
  • GENDER CRITICISM
       This approach “examines how sexual identity influences the creation and reception of literary works.
  • MARXIST CRITICISM
       It focuses on the economic and political elements of art, often emphasizing the ideological content of literature.
  • MORALIST CRITICISM
       To study literature from the moral/intellectual perspective is therefore to determine whether a work conveys a lesson or message and whether it can help readers lead better lives and improve their understanding of the world.  
  • INTRODUCTION
     
    •Title or name of the subject, author or creator, date made, and other basic information about the subject.
     
    •Outline the main ideas and identify the author’s thesis.
     
    •State your own thesis statement and your own main idea about the work.
  • BODY
     
    A.SUMMARY
    •Summarize the text in your own words.
     
    B.ANALYSIS/EVALUATION
    •State what you like and do not like about the text.
    •How well is the subject made? How do you feel about it? How the text is organized.
    •Did the author justify the message.
    •Apply the Critical Approaches.
     
  • CONCLUSION
     
    •Overall impression of the work, including final judgment on the subject’s value, significance, worth, or future improvements. 
     
    •Include a call to action.
     
     
  • Objective Assessment
    To form opinions based on facts, cite specific sources to support claims and present ideas convincingly.
  • Opinions
    are your own views of certain issues or concerns.
    • REACTION PAPER
    is a form of paper writing in which the writer expresses his ideas and opinions about what has been read or seen.
    • Reaction paper is evaluated due to the writer's communication skills and only then due the unique ideas and the content.
  • This paper writing may be informal, two pages long.
    As all essays, a reaction paper comprises introduction, body, and conclusion. In introduction the writers states the main premise, in a body he expresses his ideas and in conclusion summarizes the results. The reaction paper is not a summary of the article although information should be included.
  • Steps on Writing Reaction Paper
    1. Read the material carefully
    2. Mark interesting places while reading/watching
    3. Write down your thoughts while reading/watching
    4. Come up with a thesis statement
    5. Compose an outline
    6. Construct your paper
    • few recommendations, which will help you complete an outstanding reaction paper:
    • Read the original article carefully and highlight the main ideas and points you want to discuss;
    • Describe your point of view and back it with additional information if needed. Use vivid examples;
    • Use various sources to make your statement argumentative
  • Guidelines in writing a reaction paper:
    First, don't give a summary of an article.
    You should perform your personal opinion, not an overview. You should always back your ideas with examples.
    However, avoid using examples, which are difficult to relate to the topic.
