Kinematics Vocab

• Vector - any quantity with both magnitude and direction
• Scalar - a quantity with magnitude, but no direction
• Position - where an object is at a given time
• Displacement - change in position
• Distance - total length of the path traveled between two positions
• Vectors are represented graphically by arrows
• Time - interval over which change occurs
• Instantaneous Velocity - average velocity at a specific instance in time
• Instantaneous Speed - magnitude of instantaneous velocity
• average acceleration - the rate at which velocity changes
• Deceleration - when acceleration is opposite to the direction of its motion
• Negative Acceleration - acceleration in the negative direction of the coordinate plane
• Instantaneous Acceleration - acceleration at a specific instance of time
