Lesson 2: Speed & Velocity

Cards (7)

  • Average Speed - Total distance travelled by an object over a period of time (m/s)
    Vav = Average Speed -> Scalar Quantity
  • Average Speed:

    Vav=Vav =d/t △d/△t
    change in distance (m)
    -----------------------
    change in time (s)
  • Average Velocity - The total displacement of an object in a period of time
    ->Vav = Average Velocity -> Vector Quantity
  • Difference in speed & velocity: Velocity is displacement so it includes direction
  • Average Velocity:

    >Vav=->Vav=>d/t ->△d/△t
    change in displacement (m) + [Direction]
    -----------------------
    change in time (s)
  • Uniform Velocity - Motion of an object travelling in a straight line (single direction) at a constant speed.
  • Non Uniform Velocity - Motion of an object travelling with changing directions and/or speeds
