  • Control measures in ergonomics must be reviewed and revised if necessary to ensure they work as planned and maintain a safe work environment
  • Regulation 38 states that control measures must be reviewed and revised:
    • When the control measure does not minimize the risk reasonably
    • Before a workplace change likely to introduce new risks
    • If a new hazard or risk is identified
    • If consultation results indicate a review is needed
    • If a health and safety representative requests a review
  • Control measures should be reviewed using the same methods as the initial hazard identification step
  • Designers, manufacturers, importers, and suppliers have duties to ensure products are without health and safety risks
  • Designers must:
    • Design plant or structure to eliminate or minimize hazardous manual tasks
    • Provide adequate information to users about features that reduce the need for hazardous manual tasks
  • Ergonomic principles should be applied in the design stage to fit tasks to people
  • Manufacturers must ensure plant or structure is designed to eliminate or minimize hazardous manual tasks
  • Importers and suppliers must provide information to users to ensure safe product use
  • Manufacturers, importers, and suppliers should consider packaging and delivery methods to minimize MSD risks
