  • climbing my grandfather
I decided to do it free , // without a rope or net
  • climbing my grandfather
the skin of his finger is smooth....// ... like warm ice
  • climbing my grandfather context
the poet was very interested in questions for life and this led him to commit suicide
  • winter swans
the waterlogged earth gasping for air at our feet
waterlogged = may reflect on their relationship and how it is too saturated and that he has given his all , it may also suggest that the poet is feeling suffocated , may be showing signs of the end of their relationship
our = may suggest there is still hope to fix all issues
  • winter swans
they mate for life you said
voltar as one person starts to speak foreshadows a change in the relationship. for the first time he directly ddresses her showing that their is going to be hope for their relationship.
  • winter swans form
inconsistent form to show the flexibility of relationshps , caesura reflects on the cracks of the relationship
  • farmers bride
farmer= occupation, low paying 's' possession over the bride bride= no name suggests she is going to have no voice through the poem consonants used are stressed showing the harshness of the relationship and may foreshadow the anger intertwined in the peom
  • ''more like a little frightened fay''
    farmers bride
'f' fricative = stressed anger at the girl for being scared, and the hatred the farmer has towards this relationship
dehumanises her by calling her an animal, reflecting on how women were dehumanised and objectified then. A fay is a small object that can be controlled and shows how the farmer wants to control and capture her due to lust and desire
during the time of the play men would go rabbit hunting to fulfil their masculinity, lust and desire.
  • farmers bride
her eyes , her hair, her hair.

    pauses= excitement
'h' gasping and huffing desire by the farmer , sexual frustration he feels. he is dehumanised shown to be a dog which is ironic as throughout the poem the girl was seen as a animal to be captured , this may suggest that although women were seen as animals during that time men were the true animals/dogs of lust
commas and pauses may reflect on his heart pace increasing due to excitement
the end stopped line may suggest that his lust has gotten the best of him or he has taken control so it leaves the reader in confusement.
