teeth

Cards (48)

  • The tooth is composed of different structures:
    • Crown: the top part of the tooth, from the top to where the gingiva is
    • Neck: where the gingiva firmly connects to the tooth
    • Root: below the neck, extending down to the root of the tooth
  • Enamel:
    • Outer hard substance of the tooth, hardest substance in the body
  • Dentin:
    • Inner core of the tooth, protein-rich material produced by odontoblasts
  • Pulp cavity:
    • Contains pulp, connective tissue, arteries, veins, and nerves supplying cells within the tooth
  • Root canal:
    • Canal carrying arteries, veins, and nerves towards or away from the pulp cavity
  • Alveolar artery, alveolar vein, and alveolar nerves supply the tooth
  • Cementum:
    • Anchors the tooth to the periodontal membrane
  • Alveolus:
    • Socket where the tooth sits, connected to the bone by the periodontal ligaments
  • Periodontal membrane:
    • Pink membrane containing periodontal ligaments connecting the tooth to the bone
  • Gingiva:
    • Tissue surrounding the tooth, helps keep the tooth in place and prevents the spread of microorganisms
  • Maxillary teeth:
    • Molars (third, second, first)
    • Premolars (second, first)
    • Canine
    • Lateral incisor
    • Central incisor
  • Mandibular teeth:
    • Central incisor
    • Lateral incisor
    • Canine
    • First premolar
    • Second premolar
    • First molar
    • Second molar
    • Third molar
  • Hard palate:
    • Part of the maxillary bone
  • Soft palate:
    • Posterior to the hard palate, contains soft connective tissue and muscle
  • Palatoglossal arch:
    • Arch connecting the soft palate to the tongue
  • Uvula:
    • Structure at the back of the throat
  • Inferior alveolar nerve:
    • Nerve supplying the mandibular teeth
  • dentin makes up most of the tooth, it's yellowish colour gives the tooth its natural colour
  • pulp contains blood vessels and nerves that supply nutrients to the dentin and enamel
  • cementum is found on the root surface of the tooth, it attaches the tooth to the periodontium
  • the pulp cavity houses the dental pulp which consists of blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic vessels
  • enamel is the outermost layer of the tooth, it covers the crown (the part above the gum)
  • root is the part of the tooth below the gums
  • crown is the visible portion of the tooth
  • The crown is the part of the tooth above the gums
  • periodontium consists of gingiva (gums), cementum, ligaments and bone
  • gingiva covers the necks of the teeth and provides protection from bacteria
  • crown - the visible part of the tooth above the gums
  • the gingival sulcus is where the gum meets the tooth
  • crown is the visible part of the tooth
  • dentin is the hard tissue beneath the enamel
  • root - the part of the tooth below the gums
  • The root extends into the jaw bone
  • periodontal ligament holds the tooth into place by connecting the cementum with alveolar bone
  • gingiva is the soft tissue that surrounds the necks of the teeth
  • cementum is a thin layer of calcified material covering the root surface
  • The root is the part of the tooth that extends into the jawbone
  • ligament attaches the roots to the alveolar process of the mandible or maxilla
  • apex is the tip of the root
  • gingiva is the soft tissue covering the jaw bones
