Another reason why Black and Hispanic Americans have suffered from poverty is because they are more likely to work lower paid jobs. Different ethnic groups are concentrated in different fields of employment. White people are concentrated more in professional and managerial occupations whilst Black & Hispanic people are more likely to work in lower paying jobs such as retail, construction, farming, cleaning, catering etc. For example, in 2023 White households had a median income of $89,050, compared to the median incomes of Hispanic ($65,540) and Black ($56,490) households
