Structure

  • How does the structure of London show that power of humans is confining?
There is a cyclical structure in the poem as the first two stanzas of London focus on the suffering of the people, the third stanza focuses on the source of the suffering, and the final stanza returns to focusing on the people suffering. Blake purposely does this to suggest that the suffering is never ending, thus implying to the reader that in order to escape the cycle of suffering, there needs to be a rebellion against authority like the French also did.
