Life On Earth

Cards (20)

  • For millions of yours our earth was a barren land without an living form. The first form of living beings appeared in the form of plants which belong to the water bodies which came to be known as the flora bracket ( plan Kingdom ) . Eventually it gave birth to an another type of living beings known as fauna ( animal kingdom) . The relationship between the human beings , animal kingdom and plant Kingdom is known as ecosystem. The first form of  humans which appeared on the surface of the Earth is known as homoSapiens.
  • We know that Earth is the only planet on which living beings exist. The living zone in which all types of living beings exist is known as the biosphere.
  • The biosphere is divided into two kingdoms namely Plant kingdom and Animal kingdom. The 2 kingdoms live in complete harmony. In fact these two kingdoms are interdependent on each other. Plants prepare their food with the help of non living things such as water, soil etc. Therefore they are known as food factory. Plan also serve as a food for the animal in need. Animals also repay them back by getting decomposed and providing them nutrients for the essential growth.
  • The vegetation includes shrubs bushes, trees and grasslands. The plants vary because of the variation in their climatic conditions. For example the trees near the equatorial region are thick tall and dense. This climate provide the best climate for the plentiful growth of plant and animal life. On the other hand in the desert regions where the temperature is high , rainfall is scant , vegetation is almost nil the plant and animal life is limited .
  • Tropical evergreen forest: this type of forest are found on the both hemispheres in the regions mainly in 10 degree north and 10 degree south. Few of the examples of these type of forest are Zaire basin of Africa and Amazon Basin of South America. The temperature here is very high the rainfall is maximum and therefore the vegetation is at its zenith . Due to this the forest remains green throughout the year . The trees here are tall , thick and dense . The main trees here are a ebony, rubber and Rosewood etc.
  • Tropical deciduous forest: these type of forest are mainly found in the regions between 10 degree north to 23 1/2 degree north and 10 degree South to 23 and 1/2° South. This type of forest receive moderate amount of Sunlight and rainfall and the leaves of these trees shed in the dry season . Trees of these forest are of moderate height , some of the examples of these forest lie in the regions of India China and Eastern Brazil etc . Some of the plants found here are  Sal,teak, bamboo etc.
  • Tropical grasslands: these type of grasslands are found in the regions between the equatorial forest and the hot desert. These areas receive about 100 cm of rainfall per annum. The grasses here are rough thick and tall. Some of the examples are campos in Brazil.
  • Temperate grasslands: these type of grasslands are found in the inner part of the continents and in the temperate zones. These type of grasslands receive about 25 to 75 cm of rainfall per annum. This area is receives snowfall also sometimes. Grass here are short and soft . For example prairies, downs and velds etc.
  • The areas which have scanty rainfall and because of which , they have less vegetation those areas are known as desert.
  • Hot deserts : these type of deserts are found on the Western margins of the continent where temperature remains very high throughout the year. For example Sahara desert in Africa , Atacamas in South America, Thar desert in India etc. Some of the major plants are cactus , bushes , shrubs etc.
  • COLD DESERTS : this type of deserts are found near the polar regions where the temperature remains below the freezing point throughout the year. The majority of the creatures here are Moses lichens etc.. among the population. For example Northern part of Canada and Siberia.
  • There is another type of vegetation which are found on high altitudes and latitude of the continents like Asia, Europe, North America South America, New Zealand and Australia which are known as Taiga. The forest lying in this Taiga region is also known as coniferous forest because of the cone bearing trees. The trees are conical and shape and have very soft wood. The coniferous forest are more uniform and consist of pure stands of few species. Common plants found fir , pine , larch ,  spruce etc .
  • Animals found in the biosphere include insects, birds, and various other animals
  • Animal populations vary depending on the natural environment of the location
  • Near the equatorial regions, trees are tall and thick due to high temperatures and maximum rainfall
  • This climate in the equatorial region provides suitable conditions for the growth of a variety of animals and plants
  • Some animals found in the equatorial region are monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, armadillos, snakes, etc.
  •  In grasslands where temperature is less and the region receives moderate amount of rainfall the animal life there is less compared to the animal life in the equatorial region. Common animals found their are Leopard Cheetah lion , deer and rabbit etc. In the polar regions where the temperature is below the freezing point the animal have thick fur on them to protect themselves from the extreme cold conditions..
  •  Due to the excessive human population growth, the areas under the forest are fast decreasing. Man has cleared forest for the sake of agriculture , habitation and industrialisation. This has disturbed the ecological balance very much. This has a far reaching effect on Mankind. Wildlife has also been disturbed highly especially the animals like lions tigers, Cheetah have already faced danger to become extinct. The pollution has increased in the past years in different countries. The temperature as also Rose up alarmingly in the whole world resulting in the melting of glaciers around the world.
  • It is a high time that the man should realise his mistake and stop pampering the nature. In order to maintain the ecological balance, afforestration should be taken up on a large scale. Hunting should be strictly banned all over the world. Government has also taken steps to minimise these losses by setting up Wildlife sanctuaries , national parks and Biosphere Reserves etc . Many non-govermental organisations have also come forward to protect some of the animals species.
