Selecting a Statistical Test

Cards (5)

  • Spearman’s Rho
predicts a correlation between the two co variables
    The data is related
The design is correlation and it’s a test of correlation.
Types of data is ordinal interval and ratio
Data needed to find critical value is the number of participants and the direction of hypothesis
Calculated value must be equal or greater than critical value.
  • Sign test
predicts a different between two sets of data. Data is related and repeated measures as Ps are in both conditions . Data is nominal an it's a test of difference . Direction of hypothesis + No of scores are needed. OV is less than or equal to CV
  • Chi Sqatwd
Predicts a difference between 2 conditions or an association between variables. Data is independent and design is independent measures as each P is only in one condition . Test of difference/association and data is nominal . Direction of hypothesis + degrees of freedom are needed. OV is greater or equal than CV to be significant
  • Man Whitney U
Preducts a difference between two sets of data . Data is independent and its a test of difference . Type of data is ordinal ratio interval. Direction of hypothess + number of participants in each group is needed. OV must be less than or equal to for results to be significant
  • Wilcoxon T
Predicts a difference between two sets of data. Data is related and design in repeated and ordinal interval ratio. Test of difference . Direction of hypothesis and No of Ps is needEd to find critical value. OV must be equal to or less than for results to be significant.
