We need metabolism because life requires energy and. nutrients.
Nutrients provides nourishment to sustain life.
Nutrients are not innate to the organisms and we cannot make it ourselves.
Nutrients are required to maintain homeostasis.
ATP
or
Adenosine Triphosphate
is the primary organic compound used for energy.
ATP is the primary energy currency because it contains high energy bonds which breaks off and readily provides energy.
Metabolism
is the chemical processes involved in the production of ATP.
In metabolism, there is an
assimilation
of
new materials.
Plants: photosynthesis, producers
Animals: cellular respiration, consumers
Catabolic is breaking down while Anabolic is building up.
Metabolism involves the transfer and transformation of energy and matter.
Photosynthesis use sun or sunlight as energy sources as well as water and carbon dioxide to form sugar.
Photosynthesis
is
outsourced.
Cellular Respiration
involves release of energy in the form of
ATP.
