Homeostasis is the ability of organisms to maintain a steady internal environment.
Set point is the the physiological value around which the normal range fluctuates.
Homeostasis
is maintained through
feedback mechanisms.
If
homeostasis
failed, it can cause imbalance leading to
pathology
/
sickness
/
permanent
damage.
Feedback Mechanisms helps when we needed to revert back to state if we go pass through our setpoint.
Positive feedback increases
or
promote
the activity of the whole
pathway.
Positive feedback intensifies response until endpoint is reached.
An example of positive feedback is blood clotting.
Negative feedback is counteracting something which reduces excessive response to keep the variable within a normal range.
An example of negative feedback is body temperature regulatio.
