    • Social influence is the process by which an individual’s attitudes, beliefs or behaviour are modified by the presence or action of others
    • conformity -
      When a person changes their attitude or behaviour due to ‘real’ or ‘imagined’ group pressure
    • compliance -
      • The person conforms publicly but continues privately to disagree
      • It is the shallowest form of conformity
      • Pressure only lasts for as long as the group is present
    • identification -
      • The person conforms publicly as well as privately when with the group
      • They have identified with the group and feel a sense of group membership
      • The change in belief/behaviour is often temporary
    • internalisation -
      • The person conforms publicly and privately because the have internalised and accepted the group view
      • Tends to be permanent
      • Deepest form of conformity
