    • Parenthesis: conveys part of their past, that they had cared about nature - collectively with the pronoun ‘We’
    • Giving the pear it’s rightful ‘name’ emphasises their middle class bourgeois lifestyle and their desire to ‘show off’ their wealth

    • Simile adds comic effect: particularly coupled with the minor sentence ‘On’
    • Fairy lights whimsical description and acts as a direct contrast to the seriousness of what is about to happen.
