2.1 Displacement

• To describe motion, you have to specify the position relative to the Frame of Reference
• Earth is a common Frame of Reference
• we use reference frames that are not stationary but are in motion relative to the Earth.
• Displacement SI Unit - meters (and other units of length)
• Displacement = Final Position - Initial Position
• Displacement has direction as well as magnitude
• In one-dimensional motion, direction can be specified with + or - signs
• Distance is not defined in terms of direction
• Magnitude of Displacement - Scalar Quantity of Displacement
