  • 3 defining characters are
    • acute onset of symptoms (2-30 min)
    • presence of at least 2 symptoms: respiratory compromise, < BP, GI distress, skin irritation
    • cardiovascular compromise from minutes to hours after exposure
  • Manifests
    • HA, N, V, acute abd pain, impending doom, erythema, flushing of skin, dyspnea
    • if severe: rapid onset of HPN, neurologic compromise, respiratory distress, cardiac arrest
  • 2 body systems are typically involved
  • Allergen -> vasodilation -> fluid leaks -> swelling on periphery
