  • Product consumption:
    • still dominated by the developed world
    • products manu in NICs are exported to EU, NA and Japan
    • E.g. Dyson vacuum cleaners > transferred main production and assembly facility to Malaysia but still sells bulk of its products in the UK and rest of EU
  • Product consumption - NICs developing:
    • as they develop their pop become more affluent and begin to demand similar consumer products too those being exported from their own countries e.g. China
    • this is to develop even more so in future, significant west to east shift in consumption and production
  • Changes in production, distribution and consumption:
    1. consumption will drive trade patterns more than production location decisions > fastest growing trade routes will be between India and China
    2. As Asia becomes even more competitive more and more of the regions exports will be to other countries in Asia
    3. Western companies that specialise in finance have enormous potential to develop in the Asia/ Pacific region
