  • P - Strength , Supporting Evidence - Dual Task
Baddeley and Hitch asked participants to do a task using different slave systems then the same slave systems in which the same slave system condition had performance significantly decline
Supports WMM as central executive has limited capacity and so needs to divide attention making performance suffer
D - Furthermore , brain scans light up different areas of the brain for different tasks making it apparent that the same slave system is being used for better cause and effect
  • P - Limitation , Alternative Explanation - MSM
MSM explains memory differently and both cannot be right
Differing assumptions in linear and unitary stores
Comparison between models , not explanation of MSM
D - However , MSM flawed assumption of unitary stores
KF had damaged auditory and not visual
MSM cannot explain this whereas the WMM can
  • P - Strength , Supporting Evidence - Phonological Loop
Participants given mono and polysyllabic words to remember
Before ( control ) ; mono has better recall due to word length effect
After ( experimental ) ; suppress word length effect with repetition of ' the ' which made recall near equal

D - However , supporting evidence was performed in a lab which makes a variety of problems for it such as lack of mundane realism
