• Phlebotomy/Blood-drawing Station:

  • Dedicated area in a medical/clinical laboratory for performing venipuncture
  • Most patients from the outpatient department come here for blood drawing
• Phlebotomy Chairs:

  • Specialized chairs with adjustable armrests for proper positioning of the patient's arm during phlebotomy
• Handheld Carriers/Tackle Box/Phlebotomy Kit:

  • Specialized carriers with multiple storage compartments for holding equipment/supplies in phlebotomy
  • Bring convenience, especially in emergency or STAT situations
• PPE (Personal Protective Equipment):

  • Includes laboratory gown, gloves, face mask, and hair cap
• Syringe:

  • Tube with a nozzle and piston or bulb for sucking in and ejecting liquid
  • Fitted with a hollow needle for injecting or withdrawing fluids
• Hypodermic Needle:

  • Thin, hollow tube with a sharp tip for injecting or withdrawing fluids
  • Sterile, disposable, and for single use only
  • Available in various sizes indicated by gauge and length
• Multisample Needles:

  • Allow multiple tubes of blood to be collected during a single venipuncture
  • Usually used with vacuum collection tubes
• Tourniquet:

  • Constricting device to control arterial and venous blood flow during blood collection
• Blood Lancet:

  • Small medical implement with a double-edged blade or needle for capillary blood sampling
  • Used to obtain small quantities of blood specimens
  • Non-reusable and may be used with a lancing device
• Antiseptics:

  • Antimicrobial substances applied to living tissue/skin to reduce infection risk
  • Used to clean the site before blood collection
• Blood Collection Tubes:

  • Sterile glass or plastic test tubes with colored rubber stoppers for drawing a predetermined volume of liquid
  • May contain additive solutions to stabilize and preserve specimens
