Solar system

Cards (10)

  • Our solar system consists of our star, the sun ,and everything bound to it by gravity — the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,Uranus, and Neptune, dwarf planets such as Pluto. Dozens of moons, and millions of asteroids, comets, meteorites.
  • The distance between the sun and earth is approximately 150 million kilometers. It only takes the light approximately 8 minutes to travel from the sun and reach Earth . So ,if the sun was to die, we wouldn’t know for 8 minutes.
  • The distance between the moon and Earth is approximately 384 thousand kilometers . As you saw in the previous slide ,the moon is much smaller then the Earth and significantly smaller then the sun, however it appears to be larger then due to the fact that it is very close to Earth
  • The sun and the moon are the most important to earth. They have the biggest influence on the climate,Environment and life on earth would not exist.
  • The sun provides energy for earth in the form of light and heat.Without this energy, plants would not grow and without plants, there would be no insects or animals, which means there would also be no human life.
  • The moon also plays an important role on Earth as it influences the tides. Without the moon, there would be no high or low tides on earth. There would also be no eclipse.
  • The moon orbits earth and earth orbits the sun.The moonlight we see on earth is sunlight reflected off the moon grayish - white surfaces.
  • The amount of moon we see changes over the month of it orbits. We call these lunar phases. When light reflects off the near side to us it is a full moon.During the rest of the month we see parts of the daytime side of the moon.
  • Earth’s tilt; 23.5 degrees
  • Suns rays
