Cost

  • NEVER CONVERT 'k' IN THIS TOPIC (e.g. 17kw stays kw)
  • there are two ways to find out cost of elec -= reading meter (A) or equations (B)
  • I have used 200 units, and the price per unit is 12p; the cost = £240
  • 1 unit of elec = 1kwh
  • 1kw = 1000 W
  • To change Watts into kW divide by 1000
  • 9000W = 9kW
  • 10,000 Watts=10 Kilowatts
  • 10W = 0.01 Kilowatts
  • When using these equations, all times have to be in hours!
  • To change mins into hrs, divide by 60 (60 mins in 1 hour)
  • Hours into mins = x 60
  • 60 mins = 1 hour
  • 30 mins = 0.5 hours
  • 20 mins =0.3 hours
  • 120 mins = 2 hours
  • Seconds into hours = divide by 3600 (3600s in 1 hour)
  • 10,800 seconds = 3 hours
  • 8000 seconds = 2.2 hours
  • 300 seconds = 0.083 hours
  • Energy efficiency rating = effectivness increases upwards but so does the cost
  • Energy efficiency rating =the higher up the more effective = less electricity wasted = cheaper (in long run) + more sustainable
