    • Security - 16,000 UN troops and police restored law and order
    • Health - emergency surgeries were established
    • immigration to Canada and othe HIC's, but this did lead to Survivors guilt
  • Long-term responses: preparation
    • Aid - the Haiti relief fund, this was the main response
    • Reconstruction packages with contracts in place to prevent corruption. However, 49% of Haiti did not recieve one
    • Food - the farming sector was reformed to encourage greater self sufficiency and less reliance on food imports

    • Buildings - hospitals, Schools and gov buildings were re-built to new life withe safety codes
    • Economy - some economies were moved away from port-an- Prince to less earthquake prone areas
    • A UN Strategy was developed to create new jobs in clothing manufacturing, tourism and agriculture to reduce urbanisation
