    • Skin and muscle at corner of lips 
    • Raises corners of mouth
  • CHEWING MUSCLES

    Masseter
    • mandible
    • Close jaw/elevate platysma 

    Temporalis
    • mandible
    • Closes jaw, synergist of masseter
  • NECK MUSCLES

    Platysma
    • Connective tissue, covering of superior chest muscles
    • Tissue around mouth
    • Tenses skin of neck

    Sternocleidomastoid
    • Sternum & clavicle
    • Mastoid process 
    • Flexes neck; laterally rotates head
  • Pectoralis major
    • Proximal humerus
    • Adducts & flexes humerus

    • External intercostal: Raise rib cage (inhale)
    • Internal intercostal: Depress rib cage (exhale)
    Muscles of the abdominal girdle
    • 1.Rectus abdominis: flexes abdominal girdle
    • 2.&3.External & internal oblique: flexes vertebral column, bends trunk laterally
    • 4.Transversus abdominis: compresses abdominal contents
  • Trapezius
    • Extend head (antagonist of sternocleidomastoid), elevate, depressed, adduct, & stabilize scapula
    Latissimus Dorsi
    • Lower spine & iliac crest, Proximal humerus
    • extends/adducts humerus (power stroke- swimming, striking blow)
    Erector Spinae
    • Iliac crests, ribs 3-12, & vertebrae Ribs, thoracic, & cervical vertebrae
    • Prime mover of back extension (erectors) provides resistance that helps control bending at the waist 
  • Quadratus lumborum
    • Iliac crest lumbar fascia, upper lumbar vertebrae
    • Lateral spine flexion (forward bending), extension of lumbar spine
    Deltoid
    • Scapular spine & clavicle, Humerus (deltoid tuberosity)
    • Injection site, prime movers of arm abduction
