Cards (3)

  • Voter turnout (age)
Age has had a long-term influence on voter turnout in elections.
Older people are far more likely to vote, as although young people have strong political engagement, they have low electoral engagement. This could be becuase of lack of education on the matter (not taught in schools, people not knowing how to register themselves to vote) and inaccessibility of voting (havinng to work, being too far away from polling stations)
  • Voter turnout (age) - EXAMPLE & ANALYSIS
    66+ years (2024): 88.6%
This is in comparison to only 65.4% of 18-25 year olds, with the 20% difference reflecting how age greatly influences how likely a person is to vote.
  • Voter turnout (age) - EVALUATION
Therefore, as an individuals age is likely to determine how likely they are to turn up and vote due to the difficulties young people experience in accessing electoral participation in comparison to their older counterparts, making age a significant factor in influencing voting behaviours.
