Digestion + enzymes

• Digestion = break down of large insoluble molecules into smaller soluble molecules so they can be absorbed into the blood
• starch --> carbohydrase/ amylase = glucose
• protein --> protease = amino acids
• lipids --> lipase = fatty acids + glycerol
• iodine = starch
• glucose = benedicts solution
• protein = biuret reagent
• if starch is present, iodine turns from brown 2 inky blue-black
• If glucose is present, benedict's solution turns from blue to brick red (when strongly heated
• You have to heat benedict's solution for it to react
• test for enzymes with biuret ( enzymes are a protein)
• soluble = can be dissolved
• insoluble = can't be dissolved
