  • What is a lever?
    A lever us a rigid structure, such as a bar or bone, that rotates around an axis.
  • What is a fulcrum?
    A fulcrum is (a pivot) the point around which the lever rotates.
    This is a 1st class lever - Fulcrum is in the middle.
    This is a Triangle acting as a joint e.g: Elbow and Knee.
  • What is the Load?
    The Load is the force that is applied by the lever system.
    This is a 2nd class lever - Load is in the middle.
    This is a rectangle showing a body part being lifted e.g: Dumbbell.
  • What is the Effort?
    The Effect is the force that is applied by the user of the user of the lever system.
    This is a 3rd class lever - Effort is in the Middle.
    This is an arrow pointing down acting as the bicep.
  • Effort Arm?
    Distance between effort and fulcrum.
  • Load Arm?
    Distance between load and fulcrum.
  • 1st Class Lever?
    Advantage - Stable and strong.
    Disadvantage - Slow, Limited flexibility.
  • 2nd Class Lever?
    Advantage - Stable and Strong.
    Disadvantage - Slow, Limited Flexibility.
  • 3rd Class Lever?
    Advantage - Fast movement, Large range of motion and Decrease in MA.
    Disadvantage - The force applied must always exceed the load.
