• Solid: occupies a fixed volume and has a fixed shape
• Liquid: occupies a fixed volume and takes the shape of its container.
• Gas: expands to fill its container and takes the shape of its container.
• Brownian motion: the constant collision of particles with the walls of the container, random movement
• If a container is made smaller, the volume of the gas decreases while the pressure increased.
