  • Measles:
    • Type of virus transmitted by tiny droplets of saliva
    • Symptoms: red sore eyes, high temperature, red rash that spreads around the body
    • Prevention: MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine
  • Salmonella:
    • Type of bacteria found in the gut of many animals and uncooked foods
    • Transmitted by poor hygiene
    • Symptoms: severe diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps
    • Prevention: good hygiene practices
  • HIV:
    • Stands for human immunodeficiency virus
    • Spread by sharing needles or bodily fluids
    • Symptoms: short flu-like illness, destruction of the immune system
    • Prevention: antiretroviral medication to stop virus multiplication
  • Gonorrhoea:
    • Type of bacteria passed through sexual contact
    • Symptoms: thick green or yellow discharge, pain when urinating
    • Prevention: single antibiotic, injection, or tablet
  • TMV (Tobacco Mosaic Virus):
    • Spread by human contact from plant to plant
    • Symptoms: small patches of light green, brown, and yellow on leaves
    • Prevention: remove decaying leaves, burn infected leaves
  • Rose Black Spot (RBS):
    • Fungus (diplocarpon rosea) thriving in wet and windy conditions
    • Symptoms: purple and black spots on leaves, yellowing and falling off
    • Prevention: spray with insecticide and fungicide, remove and destroy infected leaves
