10 tonne fatberg of fat and wipes was removed from a london sewer
the toxic lump of congealed fat and household waste was40 metres long and so heavy that it broke the 1940s era sewer
repairing the damaged sewer cost £400,000 and took over two months
fatbergs form together when fat clumps together with other household waste and are becoming an increasing problem in london and 32-34 million litres of cooking oil are used every year and most is poured down the drain
the use of wet wipes and toilet paper is also increasing which is exacerbating the situation
in 2013 a fatberg weighing 15 tonnes was found in Kinsgston and last year workers spent 4 days clearing an 80m long fatberg from underneath Sheperds Bush Road
