• Pure substances consists of one type of matter
• Mixtures consists of 2+ pure substances
• Elements consists of one atom
• Compounds consists of two atoms
• Heterogenous mixture consists of components that can be easily distinguished and seperated individually
• Homogenous mixture consists of a solute and a solvent that is difficult to distinguish and seperate
• Solute is the one being dissolved by the solvent
• Solvent is the one dissolving the solute
• Homogenous mixtures are uniformly distributed
• Heterogenous mixtures are not uniformly distributed
• Solutions is where one substance dissolves completely in another. This forms a homogenous mixture
• Mechanical mixture composed of distinct substances that are physically mixed together, but not chemically combined. This forms a heterogenous mixture
• Suspension is a type of heterogenous mixture, where particles are scattered throughout a liquid.
• Colloid is a mixture where one substance are scattered evenly throughout another substance.
